Posted by RONIN/SS | Filed under Talk
I’ve had a simple blog as my homepage for quite awhile. It was time to upgrade to a full portfolio site that was clear and concise. Too many folks mistook me for just a blogger. They didn’t realize I actually create for a living. Check it out my new site at www.ronin-ss.com, fully compatible anywhere you go.

Mickey Factz Signs to Battery/Jive Records
Posted by RONIN/SS | Filed under Music, Talk
Rising Hip-Hop artist Mickey Factz has found a home at Battery Records, the label revealed to AllHipHop.com today (May 13th).
After releasing six mixtapes independently and landing spots in advertising campaigns with Honda, the 24-year-old New Yorker signed with Battery because of the label’s “creative vision.”
“My career as an artist has been a grand journey up to this point for my team GFCnewyork, and myself,“ Mickey Factz told AllHipHop.com. “Battery is the greatest compromise as they understand my vision and where we will be taking it. I’m glad to welcome them as a part of my team and The Black Apple experience. Truthfully, let the games begin.”
Mickey Factz was one of the most sought after unsigned artists before inking his deal with Battery.
According to Neil Levine, GM and Senior Vice President of Battery Records, Mickey Factz is a complete artist.
“He’s really put the work in to be a real star and Battery is very pleased to welcome him as our newest signing,” Neil Levine said of Factz’ independent hustle.
Mickey Factz left NYU Law School in order to pursue his career as a rapper.
According to Jeff Sledge, Battery’s VP of A&R, the rapper has developed his skills considerably while honing a unique sound.
“I have been working with Mickey for four years now. He has grown as an artist and developed a sound that separates him from other artists,” Sledge said. “I am excited to sign Mickey and have the opportunity to show the world the amazing artist that he has become.”

STACEY WILSON.
Philadelphia has always been known for it’s epic murals that grace it’s neighborhoods. Faces of all colors, imagery of all kinds, bringing life to the brick canvas upon which they were created. Philadelphia has always been known for it’s influence on music, birthing all types of poets… from The Fresh Prince himself to Freeway, The Roots, and Jill Scott (to only mention a few). Music and art have built the foundation for Philly’s eclectic style. After spending 6 years in Philadelphia, I stumbled across one artist that I believe to have also influenced that style. Wishing I had come across her work sooner, Stacey “Flygirrl” Wilson is Philly’s best triple threat.

Urban Outfitters / Customize your own Fixed-Gear Bike
Posted by RONIN/SS | Filed under Art & Design, Fashion, Talk

Not many people know this but I’m a cycling enthusiast. So I think it’s dope to hear that Urban Outfitters is now doing a “style your own fixed gear” bike shop. I guess the trend will explode now. I’m not a fixed gear rider myself, I prefer a Trek 1.5, but as an artist and a consumer, I love personal customization. Apparently, you can get your own customized fixed gear for $399. Madd Cheap but perfect for casual riders who want something cool.

“FUQ POP” Movie Posters
Posted by RONIN/SS | Filed under Graphic Design, Talk
Felt like sharing a new concept I’ve been thinking about. Lately, I’ve been reflecting heavily on pop culture, the media, and sexuality. I wanted to try and express that in the form of some fake movie posters for a film I call “Fuq Pop”. It’s a 5 -part set with the last image in the series being the full poster. Enjoy!

Here are some detail shots:

I really wanted to nail that vintage, 60s & 70s Print texture while keeping the colors to my tastes. All illustrations were done in Illustrator and then taken into Photoshop for compositing.
