Guatemala (Ronin Coodie Chike) – A Photo Essay

Full photo essay on the way. Stay tuned for Guatemala Day 2 and Day 3 episodes on Creative Control. Day 1 is here if you missed it.

America NU Magazine Issue #1

Check out our second magazine out of Dash Publications, America Nu Magazine. As Creative Director, I wanted to push my refined aesthetic even further to come up with something that feels classic! Between the two magazines (this and Karin + Raoul), working with Art Director David Barnett, Editor-In-Chief Raquel Horn (America Nu) and Editor-In-Chief Hassan Kinley (Karin + Raoul) was indispensable to my development as an artist. In the past 6 months my eyes have been opened to totally new art forms, aesthetics, and mediums (I plan on tackling sculpture) and I’m excited for what’s to come next. Thank you Dame, McKenzie, Raquel, Hassan, and Cynthia for allowing me to work alongside you to create these pieces of work. Check out America Nu (americanumagazine.com) and Karin + Raoul (karinandraoul.com) when you have a sec and provide your feedback.

BTW, The Black Apple is featured in this issue of America Nu, don’t miss out on that story.

GoodWood X GFCnewyork – “The Black Apple” Piece

Listen up hustlers if you still living, still grinding, still on the pursuit of being on top shining. The Black Apple represents you, the grind, the ambition that keeps dollar signs on your mind. From Hollywood to Harlem, B+ students working on A’s, rappers trying to sell their tape to cabbies riding around for days. From freelancer’s trying to get paid to barbers up early giving the whole block fades. The Black Apple is you, it’s us, it’s the past, present & future. GFCnewyork’s Kwasi & Ronin/SS designed it in collaboration with GoodWood. The Black Apple piece embody’s all of us, so that we dream bigger & become legendary. For inquires contact Rico at pb.rico.ny@gmail.com. Hit the jump for more images.

PRESS RELEASE

KARIN + RAOUL & DAMON DASH Celebrate
Pulchri’TUDE: where sexy arrogance thrives.

AN EXCLUSIVE AND UNIQUE ART EXHIBITION THAT ENCOMPASSES BOLD AND SEXY IMAGES FROM ARTISTS WHO BLEND TALENT AND ELITE PAS- SION IN ORDER TO DO COMMON THINGS IN UNCOMMON WAYS.

{Pulchri’tude} marks the FIRST of a series of gallery exhibitions hosted by KARIN + RAOUL and it’s featured artists.

NEW YORK, N.Y. (May 17, 2010 – June 13, 2010) KARIN + RAOUL will host a col- lective art and photography exhibition featuring an array of talented and pas- sionate artists from across the globe. Alongside the curating talents of artist Peter Weiss, {Pulchri’TUDE} is sure to be THE exhibition to set off the season.

From Monday to Friday, 1:00 p.m– 6:00 p.m, The Dash Gallery will be open to gallerists, art enthusiasts, tastemakers, and photography buffs alike. Visitors are invited to enjoy these powerful images that have been designed to stimu- late viewers both visually and sensually.

This event marks the first collective exhibition of the all the photographers featured in the premiere edition of KARIN + RAOUL Magazine. These art- ists are breaking the boundaries of passionate photography and are giving a common subject matter an exquisite aesthetic. Whether it is in photographic or digital art, they find the female form to be one of earth’s finest gifts and shatter the traditional portrayal of sensuality, giving it an essence of sophisti- cation.

The works of art include a series of pictorials by the immensely gifted KARIN + RAOUL, whose talents behind the lens accurately capture raw human beauty and sexually charged emotion. Karin will be displaying her provoca- tive self-portraits and personal works along with Raoul’s pictorials that reveal that powerful force which is the female form. Andrew Matusik and RONIN/SS provide a futuristic feast as they intertwine photography with graphic design techniques. Chip Willis, George Pitts, and Aeric Meredith-Goujon all showcase their powerful pictorials that invigorate the skin and the soul with sharp contrasts, exposed flesh, strong faces, and eye enticing color schemes. Painter Efroim Snyder reveals his pieces which fuse wood surfaces, paint, and Hebrew calligraphy / typography thereby exemplify that simplicity and beauty are most times, one in the same.

{Pulchri’TUDE} is the perfect balance of art, lifestyle, sensuality. The exhibi- tion also incorporates a groundbreaking element that allows the guests to travel to the virtual world via the snap of a photo. With strategically placed in- teractive tags, guests will be able to get a behind the scenes glimpse into the enlivening world of KARIN + RAOUL. All of the artists in {Pulchri’TUDE} share the same purpose, reminding people of the exquisiteness that lies in the bold and the sexy.

Graffiti by Claudio Ethos.

Without a doubt, graffiti has always been one of the most fascinating art forms. Open expression of personality and vision plastered onto concrete structures for all to see…whether they want to or not. Graffiti artists not only personify raw talent, but artistic rebellion as well. Claudio Ethos is a Brazilian grafiteiro who gives this form of art the perfect touch of eeriness and is completely worthy of our kudos.
